Jun 10, 2011 · Sonicwall blinking LED possible firmware problem. I have a TZ180W that is giving me some problems. The 'wrench' LED keeps blinking so I tried a reset to safe mode. When I boot off the current firmware it works for a short while then I get the same blinking condition again. Is this a possible firmware corruption. Drill two holes 4.5 inches (11.5 cm) apart in the wall where you want to mount the appliance. If using wall anchors, insert a wall anchor into each hole. Insert a screw into each wall anchor (into each hole if not using wall anchors), leaving 3/16 inches (0.45 cm) of the screws exposed (including screw head). If the only light blinking is the wrench, it is in safe mode. If the wrench is blinking and you see other green lights, then it is the secondary/standby unit. I have two sites where the sonicwall that is in secondary/standby mode loses its brain and is booted into safe mode. The only way I've fixed this is to reupload the firmware.
